What to Expect During Prosthodontic Treatment

Posted on 9/19/2022 by Front Desk
What to Expect During Prosthodontic TreatmentYou must know what to expect if you are about to undergo prosthodontic treatment. This blog post will outline the expectations for both patients and dentists alike. We will discuss everything from teeth cleaning to braces adjustment appointments. By knowing what to expect, patients and dentists can ensure that the treatment process goes as smoothly as possible!

Teeth Cleaning

The first step in any prosthodontic treatment is thoroughly cleaning your teeth. Removing any plaque or tartar that could potentially interfere with the treatment is essential. An expert dentist will take X-rays and impressions of your teeth to create a customized treatment plan.

Braces Adjustment Appointments

Next, you will have to visit the orthodontist every few weeks for braces adjustment appointments. The orthodontist will tighten your braces during these appointments and make any necessary adjustments. These appointments usually take about 30 minutes to an hour. You may experience discomfort after adjusting your braces, but this is normal and should go away quickly.

Taking Impressions and Measurements

The prosthodontist will take impressions of your teeth and measure how they fit together. This information is used to make models of your mouth, which the prosthodontist uses to plan your treatment. You may also have X-rays taken to help the prosthodontist see the position of your teeth and jawbone.

Ordering and Fitting Prosthetics

Your prosthodontist will take impressions of the teeth, which will be used to make models of your mouth. These models are then used to create your prosthetic teeth. The process of making the prosthetics can take a few weeks. Once they're ready, you'll return to the office to have them fitted and adjusted as needed. You may need to return for appointments to ensure the fit is still good and that your bite is correct.

Our expert prosthodontist outlines what you can expect during your treatment. Prosthodontic treatment usually takes between one and two years to complete. During this final time, you will be expected to attend regular appointments with your prosthodontist and keep your teeth and braces clean.
