How Your Mouth Adjusts to a New Dental Crown

Posted on 5/24/2021 by Front Desk
How Your Mouth Adjusts to a New Dental CrownA dental crown refers to a dental restoration, which completely encircles your tooth or dental implant. If you have a large cavity in any of your teeth, we may suggest a dental crown as a restoration method. It's used mainly to correct damaged teeth or for aesthetic purposes to enhance appearance. The procedure is fast, safe, and an excellent option for those with severe dental cavities. There are two main ways in which the mouth can adjust to a new dental crown.

Fixing and Aligning

When a dental crown has been installed, it may cause you to experience some discomfort. This may be as a result of the crown not fitting appropriately in its position. In such an instance, our professionals will fix the issue by aligning it with the other teeth to reduce the discomfort. The procedure does not take long since it will only take our professional an hour or less. In order to ease the discomfort, we will administer local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort.

Giving the Crown Time

Different dental procedures have different recovery times. After the installation of a dental crown, it may take 3-4 days for the mouth to adjust to the new crown. All you have to do is try to ease it back to normal functions. With continued chewing, talking, and stretching, the mouth will adjust to the dental crown, and soon, the discomfort will fade off. Soon, your dental crown will blend in with the rest of your teeth, making it difficult to distinguish it from the rest of your teeth.

Fixing and aligning the crown and giving the crown time to adjust will go a long way in aiding the mouth to adjust to the dental crown. For all your dental crown check-ups, consultations, and fittings, kindly visit our offices for the best services.
