Dentures open up an entirely new way of life for millions of people every year. Prosthetic teeth allow you to speak, eat and smile normally and with confidence. They require proper care and regular checkups in our office, and occasionally, they may even require adjustments and repairs. Why Adjustments? It may be easy to see why you may need to have your dentures repaired, perhaps you broke a tooth, bring your dentures into our office and we will repair them for you. Do not attempt to repair them at home; this can lead to ill-fitting dentures and even more problems. But why might your dentures need adjustments? When you first get your dentures, you have to relearn how to eat with them, but if you notice later on that eating and chewing has become difficult again, you may need to have your dentures refitted. Believe it or not, the shape of your gums changes over time and this can lead to your dentures feeling like they just are not fitting quite like they used to. By making an appointment with our office, we can examine your dentures and your mouth and find what the issue is. Discomfort with dentures is not normal. While they may never feel as comfortable to you as your natural teeth, you should not experience pain, pressure, soreness or irritation from your dentures. If you do notice pain, especially when you are biting down, you need to call our office right away. Adjusting your dentures is a relatively simple process that we offer, and it is not the same as replacing your dentures. Remember to care for your dentures daily by brushing and cleaning them and storing them in water overnight. This will help reduce your risk for gum disease and also prolong the life of your dentures. Call us today if you think you may be due for an adjustment! |
