After having dental implant surgery, it is always best to wait to do many things you'd normally do. This can be everything from eating specific foods, drinking from straws and chewing gum. There will be specific instructions that are given to you once you have implant surgery. It is important that you adhere to the rules until you're approved to eat other foods. Hard FoodsHard foods are a no-no in the world of dental implants. When you first have the implant put into your mouth, it is important to keep in mind that when biting down on hard items, this not only can cause the implant to come out of place, but also for it to be in pain. Hard foods should be avoided for a while after having the surgery.Sticky FoodsSticky foods such as bubble gum, caramel and other chewy candies should be avoided. This is going to cause you a lot of problems when it comes to coming into contact with the implant tooth. It can pull the implant right out of the socket if it is not all the way healed. This means having to go in to have the implant replanted into the gum.Sharp foods such as chips, pretzels and others that might stick into the implant site should be avoided. This can cause pain and harm to the area of the dental implant. Avoid this by staying with soft foods that do not require a straw. It is important to follow all of the instructions given regarding the implant that is being put in the mouth. You need to make sure that you're safely able to keep the implant in place without having any issues. If you have further questions regarding the dental implant, give us a call to ask!
