Do You Have to Lose Your Teeth to Get Implants?

Dental implants are commonly used as a treatment for many types of issues, ranging from sensitivity and tooth decay to trauma and others. While implants are placed where teeth are missing, you do not have to wait until your tooth falls out to request implants. When you visit a dentist, they will examine your tooth to determine if you are a good candidate for an implant.

When Do You Need Implants?

If you have a missing tooth, you probably need an implant. Even so, it is not only missing teeth that necessitate implants. The other situations where you may find implants necessary are:

You Have a Severely Broken Tooth

If you have a severely cracked or broken tooth, getting an implant might be the best way to restore the functionality of your teeth and get your smile back. Ideally, dentists try to save as much of your natural tooth as possible before opting for implants. Sometimes, they give suggestions such as bridges, crowns, or onlays before the idea of implant. However, if you prefer the benefits of implants over the other options, you can go straight for it.

You Have Suffered Significant Dental Trauma

You may also need a dental implant if you have suffered significant dental trauma. Traumatic experiences may not necessarily knock out your teeth but could result in substantial face-altering changes. Any traumatic experience that leads to tooth breakage, cracks, or even cracks in the jawbone may require an implant.

Persistent Tooth Sensitivity

Many factors can cause tooth sensitivity, including cavities and root canal infections. If the sensitivity persists after trying other treatments, such as root canal therapy, you may need an implant. The sensitive tooth must be extracted and related to an implant in this case.

To know whether you are the right candidate for dental implants, you need to talk to an expert. Our dental implant experts are always ready to listen to you and guide you. Please reach out to us via phone or email to learn more.
