5 Facts About Prosthodontics

5 Facts About ProsthodonticsProsthodontics, also referred to as prosthetic dentistry or dental prosthetics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in dental prostheses. Highly trained specialists – prosthodontists take up the sensitive tasks in this field. Below we are going to explore the five important facts about prosthodontics. Let us dive in.

High Level of Training

Prosthodontists go through an additional three years of training after graduating from dental school. They undergo a rigorous program that's designed to sharpen their skills in the dental field. The time and commitment they invest into their craft is enough evidence of how zealous and loyal they are to their work.

They are Different from General Dentists

A general dentist has attained a bachelor's degree from a dental academy. They are trained to perform all routine oral procedures.

A prosthodontist first completes a degree program from a dental academy and then furthers their education for a period of another three years. This makes prosthodontists more skilled than general dentists.

Prosthodontists are Fewer in Number

As of the year 2018, there were only 51 postdoctoral programs in Canada and the US. Few students graduate from these programs. Despite their qualifications and readiness to get started, they are definitely a small number.

They Offer All Types of Teeth Reconstructions

Regardless of the cause of a tooth or teeth loss, a prosthodontist can offer a helping hand. They perform all dental procedures that are aimed at replacing and restoring your teeth and gums.

Prosthodontists are The Oral Architects

Prosthodontists establish, treat, and plan for the prevention of dental complications. They identify causes of oral deterioration in order to halt the spread of the disease.

They also offer solutions that minimize infection impact on the oral environment, develop effective treatment strategies and prevent any future recurrences thus earning them the title. For more information, please give us a call.
