Is It Okay To Sleep With Your Dentures In?

Posted on 3/20/2023 by Front Desk
Is It Okay To Sleep With Your Dentures In?Getting dentures comes with a lot of benefits. You will have your bright smile back, and you'll also be able to chew food properly again. However, you will have to make several adjustments in order to get the best out of your dentures. As a new denture wearer, you might wonder if it is okay to sleep with your dentures in.

Sleeping With Dentures In

It is not a secret that dentures give you more confidence and a better feel about your smile and appearance. However, it is not recommended that you sleep in your dentures when it comes to good usage. Experts advise that you take them out when sleeping to give your gums some time to rest. Patients with partial dentures also wonder if they should sleep with dentures in; the answer is still no. Any type of denture in your mouth can cause oral problems, and it is better to sleep without them. Studies show that wearing dentures when sleeping could lead to the risk of diseases like pneumonia. Sleeping in your dentures could also lead to oral conditions like gum inflammation, tongue plaque, tooth decay, and potential cavities.

Furthermore, if you don't take your dentures out at night to brush and clean them, you make it possible for bacteria and fungi to collect around them. This leads to bad breath and irritation. The presence of bacteria around the gums could also lead to gum disease. This is a dangerous condition that could lead to tooth loss if left untreated. To prevent it, you should take good care of your teeth by brushing and flossing regularly. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you take out your dentures when sleeping to avoid such harmful infections. Contact our offices for more information on the effects of sleeping in your dentures.
